Caring for Widows and Orphans!
Think for a moment what it would be like to be a widow in a country where your only security for your old age is your children.  Now think what it would be like if your children have all died from AIDS and you are now left alone to provide for yourself in your old age.  Now add to that the fact that your children’s children have no one to care for them since their parents death, so you have been left with the task of not only caring for yourself, but to some how provide for a handful of children.
Bonnie & WidowBonnie & Widow
This is the plight of many of the widows we will visit when we journey to Africa this year.   Most live in mud huts and as mud huts they have thatched roofs.  Now a thatched roof is not a bad design for a roof, but it will only last for about 5 years before it starts to allow the rain to come through. Many of these poor widows sit in their tiny mud hut getting drenched by rain when the rainy season comes.  There is no place for them to stay dry.  They sit, eat and sleep in the wet.
This year the mission team has hopes to replace some of these roofs (or at least a portion of the roof) to provide a dry area for a widow and the children she is caring for, to be able to stay dry.
The team will also carry basic supplies and prayer to the widows.  BUT the team cannot do this on their own, they need financial  support to be able to do these things.  If God is leading you to become involved with the mission team in helping these widows, you can send your donation or go online to make a donation.  Mark your donation for “widows fund”.
May God bless you as you give!  We can also use a few more people to join the mission team to help with this task.

Gifts for Children
When the team travels to Kenya this summer, it will once again take gifts for the sponsored children.  Having the opportunity to give out these gifts becomes one of the highlights of the trip.  To see these children so excited and happy to receive a gift from their sponsor and some new (used) clothes, is heart warming.

If you sponsor a child your gift should fit into a gallon size ziplock bag.  Be sure to include your picture and a personal note for your child.  Put your child’s name on the outside of the bag.  If you want to give your child some clothes, you can place that in a separate bag, with your child’s name on.
All gifts should reach our office by June 15th.
If you do not sponsor a child, you can still give a gift and mark it for a “boy” or “girl” and we will give it to a child in need.
Thanks for being a blessing to these children.
Building News
The building at the children’s center has come to a halt.  With the fifth classroom finished, and $9,500 still owed on the balance for these classroom, a decision  was made to  clear the debt before any further building would take place.
There are still 6 more classrooms that need to be built PLUS a septic system needs to be installed, but we do not want to risk being so far in debt.
Can you help us make this a reality for the children?

Kenya News
  • It is with great sadness that I report the sudden death of Simon and Lizzy’s 1 month old baby daughter, Joy, from pneumonia.  Our sympathy goes out to them and all the family at the children’s center.
  • They are still experiencing a severe drought in Kenya.  Your prayers for rain are so appreciated.  This draught will greatly affect the cost of food for everyone.
  • This past month 2 children came down with Malaria but have been treated and, Praise God, are doing well.  Pray that there are no further cases of Malaria at the center.
