The mission team for 2010 has prayed about it, they have planned for it and trained for it. All that remains is for them to "DO IT!!" The team departs for Kenya next week.
This years team of 8 consists of 2 men and 6 women. It is our first all adult team to go. Please keep John, Jen, Lynnea, Alyson, Susan, Bonnie, John & Gaye covered in prayers. They have worked hard and overcome many obstacles, to follow the calling of the Lord, to journey to the bush country of Africa and serve. They leave behind jobs, businesses, children, and one had to relocate to Utah the week before the trip. But when the focus is on the One who calls and not the world, they cannot be deterred.
Kenya 2010 Team
This team will conduct a VBS program for 300+ children. They will hike into the bush to take supplies and hope to the poorest of the poor, the widows. Some afternoons will be spent visiting African mud huts to share the Good News of Jesus. Other days they will work on some misc. construction, including the start of a fence around the children’s center in Nyasoti.
They will spend lots of time loving the children and getting to know their sponsored children. This team has connections with over 15 sponsored children. What an awesome experience for the children to meet and get to know those whom they hold so dear and pray for every day. And what an experience for the sponsors to be able to hold the children they support and have grown to care about so much. While we know that not every sponsor can travel to Kenya with us, it is an amazing experience for those who can go.
The team will have much to share when they return.
Thanks For The Donations!
A HUGE THANK YOU everyone who donated all the items for the Expedition 2010 team to take to Kenya. Items include , Vitamins, Over the counter meds, school supplies, toys, games, puzzles, candy, clothes, shoes, jackets, tooth brushes and tooth paste, plus much more.
Donations came from near and far. Tracie started collecting items in Ohio, with no idea how they would get to our office in PA. A few weeks before the trip, Ed, who happens to live in the same town (but didn’t know Tracie), heard about the need and volunteered to bring the items when he came to visit family in PA. What an amazing display of God touching the lives of many to work together for the good of those in need.
What a blessing to see all these items donated and it will be a HUGE blessing when the children receive them.

Most teams become involved in a VBS to the 300 or more children who attend the school. Most people also treasure hiking into the bush to do widow ministry. We like to incorporated evangelism into each team. Teams might also do medical clinics, construction work, and/or leadership training for church leaders. This depends on the team.

Intern 2011--Apply Now
What is the difference between becoming an intern and going on a short term mission trip?
1. The length of the internship is 3 months. Short term trip is 2 weeks or 1 month.
2. The internship is not supervised by directors from the US but is directed by those on the field in Kenya.
3. The internship is much more intense and will be focused on developing you as the person God has called you to become.
During your 3 months in Kenya you will serve side by side with those who serve the children everyday. You will be assigned to jobs that suit your talents and jobs that are out of your comfort zone. You will have an opportunity to spend one or more days in a prayer cave. You will assist with the mission teams that will arrive during your stay.
If you are interested in the 2011 Internship, you can find applications at our website. You must be over 18 to apply. Apply today for 2011!!
Magunga/Nyasoti News
The children who competed in The Arts Festival, last month, placed 4th for the singing games, 2nd for the folk songs, and 1st for the choral verse. This enabled over 80 children to travel 5 hours away to the next level
of competition. At that level the coral verse group continued to hold 1st place and will compete at a higher level on July 7th. Those who competed are: Susan Aketch, Vivian, Fiona, Victorine, Charity, Emily, Cynthia Akoth, Cynthia Achieng, Teresa Wairimu, Martha, Veronica Okumu, and Kevin. Those underlined are in the choral verse group. Praise God for this talented group of children and Pray blessing on those who continue in the competition.
The torrential rains of May have greatly damaged the crops in the largest field. But as Simon commented, "We praise God for a basketful and won’t cry because we didn’t get a cart full." Praise God for what they will harvest.
Malaria has been very high and the children have been taking preventative Malaria meds to protect them from getting sick. Praise God! Continue to pray protection over them.
The female ox will soon deliver, pray protection over her.
Building News
The work on the first phase of the classrooms continues. The first 2 classrooms will be completed in time for the mission team to hold VBS in Nyasoti.
A supplier in Kisii has extended the center credit for supplies and they hope is to finish another 3 classrooms by September, when the 3rd school semester starts. This will enable the baby class-grade 2 or 3 to hold classes in Nyasoti. What a blessing this will be. It will take the youngest children out of the rusted out, leaky, old building that is a two mile walk away, and give them new, clean, and sturdier classrooms next to where they live. This is due to those of you who have committed to see these children grow and prosper in spite of being orphans who live in the remote bush country of Africa. These children now dream of a future that is bright and offers them new hope. So many of you are making this a reality.
Waiting eagerly for new classrooms
Praise God for all that is happening. Continue to pray for more people to become involved in building for their future (BFF).
Here is where the building stands:
Phase I (completed) $10,000
5 temporary classrooms (in Magunga)
Phase II (completed) $30,000
2 houses built at new location in Nyasoti
Phase III (completed)
$8,000
Drilling and const of a well in Nyasoti
Phase IV (current)
5 classrooms @ $7,000 each in Nyasoti
Total-$35,000
$10.500 received
$ 24,500 Needed
Become Part of the BFF Club
What can you do with $10 a month? Not much...or...A LOT!!
Become part of our BFF Club (Building For their Future). By committing to donate $10 or more (as God leads) per month, you can become part of making a brighter future for the children of Kenya. The building enables us to build classrooms, more housing, wells and septic systems. All the things that help them to grow and prosper and learn to become adults with a future.
It helps us to give them a hand up and not just a hand out.
Currently we are focused on building classrooms for the children. We have 2 finished but need to get a total of 11 classrooms for the primary school (baby class-grade 8). Then construction of a secondary school .
If everyone gives a little God can do a lot!
Pray for more members.
Child Of The Month
Meet Octave!
Octave
Octave is 11 years old and lives in Kenya. His father died from Malaria in 2001 and his mother has struggled to care for Octave and 5 siblings, on her own.
She has requested assistance from the children’s center for 2 of her children. Octave and his sister Cynthia. Cynthia has found a sponsor but Octave is still waiting. Octave does not always do well at school and poor nutrition is suspected.
Praise God for this beautiful child.
Pray that Octave will find a sponsor soon.
Pray for his health to remain good and for his needs to be met.
Pray for his mother who continues to struggle to provide for her family.
By sponsoring Octave, or another child for $35 a month, you help provide food, clothing, medical care, and an education.
100% of all sponsor donations go to help the children.
