About Us

Shalom Christian Missions was established to preserve and prevent precious lives from going to waste.  We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, dedicated to serving children in need throughout the world.

What we Believe:  This ministry is an Interdenominational Ministry.  Our board comes from different denominations.  We believe that the Bible is the true Word of God.  We believe that Jesus is the only way to eternal life.  We believe in the Trinity.

Why Shalom:  Sometimes people will ask "Why we are called Shalom Christian Missions?"  Shalom is a Hebrew greeting that means "peace".  Peace between man and God and peace between nations.  Through Shalom Christian Missions we strive, by the grace of God, to achieve both.

Background of SCM: While serving on short term mission trips, Gaye Makrias (director of SCM) recognized a need to establish an organization to labor side-by-side with those throughout the world that are struggling to help orphans and children in need in their own countries. SCM does this by working with these indigenous servants who are already working directly with children in their own country.  SCM makes a preliminary visit, with each area that we serve, to establish that there is truly a need.  We continue to make regular visits with each center to assure that the centers continue to use what is provided to them in the appropriate manner for which it is being given.

Shalom Christian Missions is currently serving with the children in Nyasoti and Magunga, Kenya. It is in a very rural part of the western province of Nyanza, near Lake Victoria.

The Kenya Children's Center SCM no longer is working with Simon Ochola and his children's center (SCC) because of accountability and many other issues that were revealed to us. (see May report).  We do continue to work with the community of Nyasoti, at their request.  A new center is being established for the benefit of the children and the community.

How SCM Works

  • SCM helps to establish those children who are in need and matches them with a sponsor.  For $35 a  month, a sponsor helps provide, food, shelter, clothing, medical care, and a Christian education.
  • We help build housing and schools for the children and look for ways to help the center become as self-sufficient as possible.
  • We send people from the USA to serve in the mission field with these centers that care for the children. They serve side-by-side with the nationals and are immersed in the culture, thus serving the children and the community while allowing an opportunity for growth in themselves, by serving the most needy in another culture. Both short- and long-term missions are available.
