March 2015 Newsletter

What is Happening?

It is always a busy day, busy month at New Beginnings Children's Center.

This past month the 9th grade secondary students, who always start a month later than the other secondary students, started their school year. Please pray for the following sponsored students who took the big step to enter secondary school this year: Timothy, Grace John, FinaDona, Nelly, Rosemary, Collins, Sharon, Sarafina, Jane, Lavender, Susan, Irene, Josephine, and InnerReisher. May God grant them success in their studies.

Riala and Kevin are excited to begin job training at a vocational school.

Three of our older boys who have successfully finished 8th grade, went off to start vocational training. Kevin Omondi and Kevin Kiriga will study to become mechanics and Riala will learn to be an electrician.

The following week found three children in great need of medical care. Nine-year-old Josephine, was playing with another child and had an eye injury. She was rushed to the hospital and admitted for surgery. A day later she was released and seems to be recovering well. She will be rechecked to make sure she is regaining full eyesight. After that, 10-year-old David came in with a boil on his foot that seemed to be getting infected. Soon his entire foot was swollen and he needed emergency medical care. He is now on antibiotics and recovering well. Last, 16-year-old Victor was found lying unconscious on the steps to New Beginnings' medical office. He had spiked a fever of over 105 degrees F. A nighttime rush to the clinic and an overnight stay with IV treatment for malaria and he is back and recovering well. Our missionaries on the ground are praying for no more emergency medical cases.

This past week saw several new children come to New Beginnings after finding sponsors. Some are not very healthy and we ask you to pray for them as they receive plenty of good food and proper medical care. May God strengthen them. Often as the children wait for a year or more to find a sponsor, they receive very poor care during that time and their health suffers. If God places it on your heart to sponsor a child, please become obedient to the call. A child is waiting and praying.

We also had one more of our grade 8 graduates make a decision to join the others in job training.
It is rarely a quiet week at New Beginnings. With so many children learning, eating, and growing, there is much to do. Is God calling you to join our long-term missionaries on the field in remote Kenya?  Join us...for the love of a child!

Calendar of Events

Contact us to have someone share about the miracle that God is doing on a hill in remote Africa. A missionary would be happy to share. How great it is for young and old alike to hear about miracles on the mission field in Africa.
Schedule for 2015 TODAY.

2015, A Year of Giving!

February: Sock it to us - We are still accepting sock donations for the children. The children prefer tube socks so they can be worn with their uniforms. Children's size 6 through adult med, both boys and girls.

March: March in with shorts and skirts!  During March, help us collect new and gently-used shorts and skirts.  The girls wear skirts that are about knee length or lower.  The shorts are for the boys.  These children wear size 6 - 16 and adult sizes small and medium.  Thanks for giving!

Please send all donations to our headquarters at:

Expedition 2015!

There is still time to join the Team for 2015!
Kenya is Ebola free!!

What will I do on a mission trip? That is often the question. The answer...what is God calling YOU to do? From construction to VBS, to medical care, to sharing the Gospel. Our teams have done it ALL. What is God calling you to do? Not sure...take a step of faith and see what God shows up to do. It will be more than you ever dreamed or imagined.

Our missionaries stay in missionary housing of brick construction on the secure grounds of our children's center in a very remote area of Kenya. Spend time immersed in the culture and lives of those who call New Beginnings HOME. Show the Love of Jesus with the community. Change their lives AND change your life...FOREVER!

Missionary News

This past month brought John M. back to New Beginnings. After being stuck in a blizzard in Istanbul as he traveled, he arrived in Kenya safely and to a much kinder climate. The children were very happy to have their Papa John back with them. John continues to work to bring better and more organization to our staff on 'the hill' at New Beginnings.

Cody continues to work to oversee the construction crews as so much building continues. Since John's arrival, more construction has begun to bring New Beginnings up to par with the vision to serve these children and this community in remote Kenya.

Lynnea continues to teach English to 2nd and 3rd grade, plus observing and coaching the teachers with new ideas and ways of teaching.

Christa continues to work with the secondary teachers and students in order to tutor the students who are struggling.

Keep them in prayer as they serve the Lord at New Beginnings Children's Center.
If God is leading you to support them financially they would be truly blessed.

You may send your support through SCM's paypal link. Choose 'General Fund' and include the missionary account number in the 'Add special instructions to recipient' area on the Paypal page, or mail a check to our headquarters.

Help us keep them in the field!

School News

New Beginnings Primary School has started their school clubs this month. This helps to round out the children's education and prepare them for school sports and, of course, the exciting music festivals that will be held next semester. This semester the focus is on sports. Pray for safety for the children as they engage in fun competition with other school in different sports areas. Football (soccer) is the most popular with netball (volleyball) becoming increasingly popular each year.

New Beginnings Secondary School is off to a great start and the incoming 9th grade joined the school in February. With so much happening at both schools, it is never a dull moment at New Beginnings!

Consider becoming a 'New Beginnings Defender of Education'

We continue praying for more people to become involved in helping with the costs of education for the children. This is an extreme need right now! We need to increase our teachers' salaries to above the poverty level. With the incoming president last year, prices of everything have been on the increase within the nation. This is not helping those who live far below the poverty level in this rural area. We also need to purchase more books and other supplies for our students. We cannot do this based on the tuition we are charging since our goal is to continue to keep our schools affordable for the people who live in great poverty within this community. Please join us in praying for people to join us in this effort.

Donor Defender If you choose to donate $20-$50 each month to our education fund, you can provide an increase for 1-2 teachers.

Patron Defender If you give $51-$99 each month to our education fund, you provide for 3-4 teachers to receive a raise and more supplies such as books to be purchased for a classroom.

Champion Defender If you can donate $100 or more each month to our education fund, you provide a raise for 5 teachers plus additional supplies. Please consider helping us in this very critical way.

Every person who becomes a 'New Beginnings Defender of Education' will have their name placed on a plaque that will be on display at New Beginnings Christian School. Our current goal is to have $1000 in donations for our education fund each month to supply our teachers with a fair wage above the poverty level in Kenya and to buy the needed classrooms supplies for the school. This is vital for the education of the children in this remote part of the world.

If you are a teacher or just care about seeing children in a very remote, poor area of the world have a chance at a better life, consider becoming involved as a 'Defender of Education'...'for the love of a child'!

Building News

So much is taking place at New Beginnings right now and dreams are coming true.
The new boys' dorm should soon be finished with the roof trusses going up last week and the roofing materials being delivered.

The new latrine for the secondary school is almost finished. It will now hold eight stalls - four for the girls and four for the boys.

The excavation for the new primary classrooms is finished and John is working on securing estimates from contractors to begin the job of building the new permanent structures.

The final window glass is also being installed in the secondary classroom to make them much more secure for the new desks/lockers that have been made for the secondary students.

And if that isn't enough, they are looking at building a guard house at the gate to ensure that all visitors who enter sign in to New Beginnings.

Thanks so much to those who have given to help make this possible for the children and this remote community of Africa.  You are a true blessing!  May God greatly bless all of you!

Child of the Month!

Meet Austine!

Austine is 14 years old. He is in grade 5 and is a good student. Often Austine has not had the opportunity to attend school since his parents live in poverty. His mother sells vegetables to New Beginnings to try to make a living for her and Austine. His father is a polygamist and alcoholic that does not do well in supporting either of his families.  Recently Austine's father has been very ill. Austine's mother prays that he will find a sponsor to help him have a better life. Austine likes to play soccer and enjoys his religion class the most. He hopes that if possible, one day he can become a doctor in order to help others.

Nyasoti News

The big news in Naysoti continues to be the building taking place at New Beginnings. While the rainy season has not yet started, supplies are being brought in to continue the building. Over 30 people within the community have currently found employment with the new construction. Contractors have been placing bids to start the construction of the new permanent primary classrooms. We praise God that generous donations have made this building possible and will mean a brighter future for the entire community.

It is time for the rainy season to being. Please pray for good rains during this season for the agricultural community.
