Operation Christmas Shoes

With the beauty of fall fading, it is once again time to think about the holiday season ahead. That means it is time to seriously think about donating to Operation Christmas Shoes. A $25 donation can purchase a new pair of school shoes, uniform, and socks for a child to start the new school year in 2015. For an orphan, partial orphan, or an extremely vulnerable child, this is like a dream come true. Most of these children do not have access to a proper education, and to have the privilege of walking into school with new shoes and clothes is such an honor.  Please visit our donation page to contribute to Operation Christmas Shoes.

Some of the recipients from 2013

With more than 150 children now living at New Beginnings Children's Center in rural Kenya, that means we need to raise $4000 to meet this need. Any donation amount will help us to do this. Please consider a gift for a child in remote Africa. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, so all donations are tax deductible.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE who attended and gave to support our Annual York Benefit Dinner. This year we raised more than $9,000 that will go towards the 1st Phase of our building to replace our primary classrooms. What a blessing and we give glory to God for making this possible. We will continue to take donations toward this building project, for the love of the children. Let's give them a better place to make learning possible!

Prayer Warriors Needed

Two years ago, a group of people began to pray for one child each month. They do this through Facebook and if you would like to become involved as one of our Children's Prayer Warriors, contact Shalom Christian Missions page on Facebook for more details. Once a month we will post a picture of a child and how you can be praying for them on your Facebook timeline or in a private message. We have seen amazing results because of these mighty prayer warriors. Will you join our Children's Prayer Warriors team?

Calendar of Events

November and December 2014: For the next two months we will take Christmas donations for OPERATION CHRISTMAS SHOES for the children of New Beginnings Children's Center. Our goal is to collect $25 for each child, enough so that each will receive a new school uniform, shoes, and socks to start their new school year in January 2015. (Approx $25 per child X 160 children = $4,000) Please consider a special gift to the children and make their Christmas a little brighter.

January 2015: We will focus on giving donations of undergarments. This will include underwear, bras, half slips, camis, and pj pants. Please note that the older girls prefer the bikini style, the younger girls the briefs, and the boys all prefer the briefs. We can use sizes children's 6-adults medium. In bras we can use various sizes of A cup on up. Our goal is to collect enough for all 160 children. You can send your donations to our office in January and February. If you have a church or organization who would like to collect for us, we would be happy to send you brochures to hand out so that they know who we are. Just contact us to let us know.

We are also happy to come to your church and/or organization to share. Schedule a date with us!

Expedition 2015

What will I do on a mission trip? That is often the question. The answer...what is God calling YOU to do? From construction to VBS, to medical care, to sharing the Gospel. Our teams have done it ALL. What is God calling you to do? Not sure...take a step of faith and see what God shows up to do. It will be more than you ever dreamed or imagined. Our missionaries stay in missionary housing of brick construction on the secure grounds of our children's center in a very remote area of Kenya. Spend time immersed in the culture and lives of those who call New Beginnings HOME. Show the Love of Jesus with the community. Change their lives AND change your life...FOREVER!

Missionary News

Our missionaries are wrapping up their year with the children of New Beginnings.
Lynnea has finished teaching and the students are taking their final exams this week. Lynnea has challenged her classes to score 94% or higher on their finals. Closing date for the 2014 school year will be Nov 19.

Cody remains very busy handling the inventory for the kitchen. It is a huge job to feed almost 200 children and staff every day and it is an even bigger job for the person who literally counts the beans to make sure that food is not being wasted or stolen. Cody continues to do a great job of keeping this under control.

Christa is busy doing many odd jobs around the center and spending her evenings tutoring many of the children. She will continue to tutor this week until the finals exams are finished. Some days she is the one to take sick children to the clinic. Pictured below, she and Elizabeth return from a trip to the clinic and had to walk a mile, in the mud, after it rained.

John is very busy bringing more and more organization to New Beginnings. It is a job in itself to train and lead those we hire at New Beginnings so that they can do the job that is expected of them.

All of our missionaries look forward to returning to the USA next month for a break with their families and friends before heading back in January.

Please keep them in prayer and if you would like to make a donation to their account, it would be greatly appreciated.

Our long term missionaries need your support!

School News

New Beginnings Christian Primary School is wrapping up its third school year. The grade 8 students completed their National KCP Exams last week. Now they will wait to hear the results in January over the public media. This is an exciting time for these students. I have high expectations as I have watched the scores from these students steadily increase over this past year.

The primary school is working on their final exams this week. These scores will be calculated to determine if each student moves on to the next grade level or will be advised to remain in their current grade. Closing day for the primary school is Nov 19th.

Our overall school performance is phenomenal! At the end of last term our school ranking was #61 out of 945 schools in HomaBay county, #5 out of 60 schools in Suba District, and #1 out of 27 schools in Kigoto area. This from a school that is only 3 years old. It is truly a miracle from God!

A BIG thank you to our Head Master Mr. Jared and to all the staff of New Beginnings Primary Christian School. Please keep the students and staff in prayer.

Morning Assembly for Primary School

New Beginnings Christian Secondary School has already finished its final exams and the last day for our secondary students will be Thursday, Nov 13th. This is the first school year of operation and everyone is looking forward to finishing well and returning next year with another grade level added to include grade 11. Please pray for those in secondary who still owe tuition to be able to pay their tuition and get their final scores.

Pray for all the students to find a way to continue with their secondary education. This is a great difficulty in this part of the world.

(If anyone would like to make a one time donation to help cover tuition for a secondary student who is coming up short, you can do so by marking it 'tuition for secondary'.)

Consider becoming a 'New Beginnings Defender of Education'

We are praying for more people to become involved in helping with the costs of education for the children. This is an extreme need right now! We need to increase our teachers' salaries to above the poverty level. With the incoming president last year, prices of everything have been on the increase within the nation. This is not helping those who live far below the poverty level in this rural area. We also need to purchase more books and other supplies for our students. We cannot do this based on the tuition we are charging since our goal is to continue to keep our schools affordable for the people who live in great poverty within this community. Please join us in praying for people to join us in this effort.

Donor Defender If you choose to donate $20-$50 each month to our education fund, you can provide an increase for 1-2 teachers.

Patron Defender If you give $51-$99 each month to our education fund, you provide for 3-4 teachers to receive a raise and more supplies such as books to be purchased for a classroom.

Champion Defender If you can donate $100 or more each month to our education fund, you provide a raise for 5 teachers plus additional supplies. Please consider helping us in this very critical way.

Every person who becomes a 'New Beginnings Defender of Education' will have their name placed on a plaque that will be on display at New Beginnings Christian School. Our current goal is to have $1000 in donations for our education fund each month to supply our teachers with a fair wage above the poverty level in Kenya and to buy the needed classrooms supplies for the school. This is vital for the education of the children in this remote part of the world.

If you are a teacher or just care about seeing children in a very remote, poor area of the world have a chance at a better life, consider becoming involved as a 'Defender of Education'...'for the love of a child'!

Building News

It is so exciting to see the progress being made at New Beginnings. Phase I of our building is almost completed and because of the extreme need of Phase II we have decided to move forward with Phase II and fill in what is still needed with Phase I as we go.

With Phase I we still need to place more rain gutters and water holding tanks to the compound and will work to do so. We also have space for 1 more missionary house to be built in our row of mission housing. With 5 mission houses in place, #6 will take place at a later date.

We are very excited to begin construction of our permanent brick primary classroom. This will happen in 2 phases only because the need for other building is also pressing in on us. This week our grounds crew will begin digging out the ground for our first permanent primary classrooms. These classrooms are badly needed since our temporary classrooms that were built 3 years ago are beginning to fall down and have gaps and holes in the ceiling and walls. Another part of our Phase II is finishing the Form 3 (grade 11) classroom and our secondary school laboratory. The laboratory will be needed for grades 11 and 12. Grade 11 of our secondary school will begin in January.

Child of the Month

Meet Belinda!

Belinda has been a student of New Beginnings Primary School this past year. When her father, John (our head cook) suddenly died in September, she and her 2 half siblings were left with no one to provide for them. New Beginnings has taken all three in but they are in great need of sponsors in order to remain.

Belinda is 14 and in grade 6. She is an average student. Belinda likes to play soccer. Her favorite subject is English and she likes the color yellow. Belinda dreams of one day becoming a lawyer to stand for the oppressed in her nation.

Please pray for Belinda to do well on her final exams this week and for her to find a sponsor.

Community News

The life giving rains have returned to the area and everything is turning green once again. Your continued prayer for this is so appreciated by New Beginnings and the entire community.
